The QRL’s South East Queensland Division has commenced the process to appoint a new Chairman, following former Chairman Peter Betros’ election to the QRL Chairman position ,taking over from the retiring John McDonald.
Peter was the Chairman of the former “Southern” Division, becoming the inaugural Chair of SEQ when the new entity was formed in 2006.
The region covers Brisbane, the Gold Coast strip and also the booming population areas of Ipswich.
This membership represents more than 40% of Queensland’s rugby league participants.
During Peter's tenure, many notable achievements were put into place with fulltime staff employed in each region for both the Junior and the Senior Local League organisations.
Funding provided to support the grassroots of the game has also increased each year.
Although it is disappointing to lose a quality and dedicated leader in Peter, this is an opportunity for someone to make this role their own and continue to address the most pressing issues which confront the Division.
In an exciting time for the game this new appointment will have a chance to identify and implement many beneficial programs to cement the game’s future.
As the incumbent, Peter will resign from his current Division Chairman position at an extraordinary general meeting to be held on Friday, February 1.
The South East Queensland Board Delegates will then elect the Chairman for the 2013 season.
This person will also be appointed as a Director to the QRL Board.
