THE QAS Junior Emerging Origin squad completed a sharp field session in Brisbane this morning under the watchful eye of coaches Kevin Walters and Mal Meninga.
Meninga was happy to take a back seat as Walters – the coach of the Queensland Under 20s team – delivered instructions throughout the lively ball session.
The majority of players attending the inaugural four-day camp this year are eligible for selection in the Queensland Under 20s team to play NSW later this year.
Queensland narrowly lost the 2012 match 18-14 but young gun Corey Oates is quietly confident the Maroons can get the job done in the highly-anticipated second meeting. (see the interview with Corey and footage from the training camp on QRL TV soon).
The Junior squad has a full program of activities locked in for tomorrow at the Queensland Academy of Sport’s state-of-the-art facility.
The day includes lectures and presentations from Queensland league greats, along with an afternoon field session.
Next weekend will see the QAS host the senior Emerging Origin squad, with the likes of Ben Barba, Michael Morgan, Daly Cherry-Evans and Josh McGuire to be put through their paces by QAS rugby league head coach Wayne Bennett.
