Updated 2013 Intrust Super Cup Draw
Wynnum Manly’s quest for a hat-trick of Intrust Super Cup premierships will commence in front of the Channel 9 cameras next month when the Seagulls host grand final rivals the Redcliffe Dolphins.
The bayside derby on March 17 marks the start of a bumper season of local rugby league on Channel 9, which is again committed to broadcasting live Sunday afternoon matches.
The highly-anticipated grand final replay will see former Queensland and Australian prop Petero Civoniceva play his first premiership match for Redcliffe since starring for the Dolphins in the 1994 Colts grand final.
In round two, Channel 9 will broadcast the Pizzey Park clash between the Burleigh Bears and Northern Pride – two clubs who enter the 2013 season with high expectations after missing the top five last year.
The following weekend, the Ipswich Jets will host the Easts Tigers in the television match.
The Jets and Tigers have a long history of close encounters and early indications point to another classic tussle with both clubs building nicely in the pre-season.
Round four will see the spotlight fall on the Souths Logan Magpies and Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles.
The Magpies are tipped to be the big improvers in 2013 while the Sea Eagles have formed a young and enthusiastic squad that should be dangerous under second-year coach Dave Cordwell.
Fans in the north of Queensland will be paying close attention to the round five television match which will see the Mackay Cutters’ premiership aspirations undergo a stern examination in the form of the Redcliffe Dolphins.
Easts will host their first television match of the year at Langlands Park in round six when the Melbourne Storm-affiliated club takes on the Tweed Heads Seagulls, who will be eager to impress under new coach Aaron Zimmerle.
The Norths Devils and Central Capras have not been allocated a television match in the opening six rounds but both clubs will feature as the season progresses.
Major Competitions General Manager Jamie O’Connor said the Intrust Super Cup was in a position of strength following the new broadcast deal unveiled last year.
“We are fortunate to be able to plan for the future now that the Intrust Super Cup has been included in the broadcast rights for the next five years,” O’Connor said.
“We’re looking forward to unveiling a number of new enhancements to the coverage, one of which will be the XXXX Man of the Match.
“XXXX have joined the Intrust Super Cup as the Official Beer and Cider of the competition and we are looking forward to their involvement throughout the season particularly as naming rights sponsor of the Man of the Match award.”
