THE PRIZED signature of home grown talent Aaron Bulow has eluded the Jets but the re-building Ipswich club is still poised to field a beefed up forward pack next year, signing PNG international Trevor Exton.
Bulow, a star of the Jets’ 2002 Queensland Cup campaign, will either remain with the Norths Devils or link with another Brisbane-based club.
The explosive back-rower last week informed Jets CEO Brendan Hurst of his decision to remain in Brisbane.
While disappointed at missing out on Bulow’s signature, an upbeat Hurst backed the club’s existing back-row stocks to produce the goods in 2007.
“We’ve got a host of back-rowers so it’s not a position we’re really lacking,’’ Hurst said.
However, Hurst is desperate to bolster the club’s depth in the front-row. He has already picked up the services of Easts prop Exton.
“I actually tried to get him here last year,’’ Hurst said.
“I think he’s looking for a bit of a change of scenery. I’d say he’s impressed with our coaching staff as well.’’
Hurst said that a second prop with Queensland Cup experience would soon sign with the Jets.
The Jets boss also revealed that his club would attempt to lure former Parramatta and New Zealand Warriors prop Mark Tookey to Ipswich.
Tookey is keen to quit a lucrative career in the English Super League and return to Queensland.
“We’ve expressed a bit of an interest there,’’ Hurst said.
“He’d be someone we’d definitely be interested in.’’
The Jets will hold their black tie presentation night at Jets Leagues Club tomorrow. Jets Get Some Kumul Power
