Mogg Reveals Future Ambitions

ADAM Mogg has hinted that his current deal with Catalans Dragons could be the last in his professional rugby league career.
Currently holidaying on the Coast, the Caloundra product re-signed with the French-based Super League outfit for a further three seasons earlier this year.
“I think it’s probably the last contract I was going to sign and it (staying with Catalans) was right for myself and for my family,” he said.
“The club was patient with me. I had a look around at other clubs and I decided I wanted to stay in France and continue to help build the club.”
However, while not on the cards at the moment, the former Redcliffe (pictured playing for the Dolphins) and Canberra star hasn’t ruled out making a return to the NRL in the future.
“I don’t think so at this stage but, like I’ve always said, you never say never,” he said.
“There’s some guys running around this year in the NRL playing fantastic football, like Ruben Wiki.”
While an NRL return seems a long shot, it seems the chances of Mogg pulling on a Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles jumper in the Queensland Cup are a little shorter. “I’d love to be involved with the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles when I’ve finished with footy,” he said.
“I’ve done a bit of travelling and this is one of the best places in the world.
“I’d love to get involved with rugby league on the Coast; it’s something I’m pretty ambitious about and hopefully something can pan out there for me.”
Mogg applauded the QRL’s decision to grant the Sunshine Coast a Queensland Cup license from next year.
“Queensland Cup is now looked upon as the second strongest competition in Australia and probably the third best competition in the world,” Mogg said.
“All the guys who want to go to a higher level and make a career out of it – it’s a massive opportunity.
“Finally it’s here and hopefully the local guys get on board and make a real fist of it, be patient, and someone will eventually get their chance at the big time.”
After making the Challenge Cup final last year and finishing third after the Super League regular season in 2008, Mogg is predicting rosy times for the Dragons.
“I think the club’s taken some positive stances. Obviously it takes time, but we moved up the ladder eight or nine places this year, and hopefully we can improve again next year,” he said.
Mogg believes the acquisition of big name signings Jason Ryles and Steven Bell should ensure Catalans are again one of the teams to beat next year.
“They’re obviously going to bolster the side again, and hopefully we can get everyone fit and playing well under new coach Kevvie (Broncos legend Kevin Walters),” he said.
“I think we’ll play a different style under Kevvie. (Outgoing coach) Mick Potter and his coaching staff did a fantastic job, but Kevvie is going to take over and we’ll have to learn to play his way and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
