SPECTATORS might have to look twice when they watch the Ipswich Jets take the field in Saturday’s Intrust Super Cup match against the Wynnum Manly Seagulls at the North Ipswich Reserve.

As part of the Defence Force Appreciation Day, the Jets will wear special camouflage jerseys which will be auctioned after the game. All proceeds will go to the Junior Jets Program and the Defence Force Mates4Mates charity.

Following the big round three match between the Jets and Seagulls, spectators will be treated to the firepower on show between the RAAF and Army teams (3.45pm kick off).

The clash is the final game of the Inter Service Rugby League Carnival and caps off a bumper day of rugby league which also includes FOGS Colts and FOGS Cup matches between Ipswich and Wynnum.

The off-field entertainment promises to deliver as well, with World War II re-enactment groups, military vehicles, light horse troops, remote controlled aircraft displays, face painting and jumping castles.

Jets CEO Wayne Wendt encouraged fans to turn out in big numbers.

“This will be a terrific game day experience,” Wendt said.

“The Defence Force match promises to be an excellent game of rugby league. While the game provides an excellent opportunity for players to perform on an Intrust Super Cup program, it also highlights the wonderful service and sacrifices made by the men and women from our Defence Forces.”

In the Intrust Super Cup match, Ipswich will be chasing back-to-back wins after opening their 2014 account with a hard-fought 25-18 victory over Tweed Heads last Saturday.

Marmin Barba scored one of Ipswich’s four tries in his first match for the Jets, who set up the win on the back of a 24-4 half-time lead.

Wynnum Manly were perhaps even more impressive last week, dismantling competition favourites Easts Tigers with a clinical first-half display.

The Seagulls stumbled slightly in the second half but crossed for the last try of the game to secure a 32-24 victory.
