Miriam Vale hosted the 2014 representative carnival between South Burnett, Central Burnett and Northern Districts Leagues.

In the first match South took on Central Burnett while Northern Districts got an opportunity to have a look at their opponents.

The draw was set at 20 minute halves for the round robin competition but the teams chose to play 40 minutes straight in the cooler evening conditions.

Northern Districts played South Burnett in their first game and ran out onto the field with a high level of intensity that were continued all the way to the end of the game.

The Bulldogs had two training runs with only a small part of the teams on both occasions being able to attend due to work commitments but they showed what a side of great players can do.

Before kick-off coach Michael O’Sullivan told his boys to forget about club footy and play for the pride of the ND Bulldogs jerseys and was well led by captain Aaron Causton. Aaron shows year after year what rep footy means and his dedication is appreciated in our league. Northern Districts beat South Burnett 18-10 then took on neighbour league Central Burnett with who they have had a great rivalry with for many years.

The Dogs went out fired up following the break ready to tackle the new side which they did in the early stages with a great try scored by centre Corey Chapman who bagged four tries for the night.

Halfback Andrew Filo had the perfect kicking game and showed the crowd his accuracy with a 40-20 giving the Bulldogs another chance in the opposition’s territory which they capitalised on and using the mistakes made by Central Burnett were able to run away with the game 32-6.

There were so many ND players who stood up and had outstanding games, paying selectors back for their place in this year’s rep team. Young Gin Gin player Benjamin Kuskey in at hooker led by example and was well supported by forwards Glenn Cox,  Aaron Causton, Jesse Jenkins, Aaryn Lowcock and Brent Crawford. Centres Chapman and Ross played havoc down the wing of Central Burnett scoring ample points for the Bulldogs.

New player Michael Murphy played second-row and worked tirelessly along with young forward Mat Card who did his job asked of him by the coach. Mat will have years ahead of him representing his league.  Coach O’Sullivan was praised for putting the structures in play for the boys to play so well and he has been appointed Wide Bay Rangers coach.

Congratulations to the following NDRL players who were successful in being selected for the Wide Bay Country team to play in the 47th Battalion in Gladstone in May.

Aaron Causton, Nic Carey, Corey Chapman, Glenn Cox, Jesse Jenkins. Benjamin Kuskey, Aaryn Lowcock and Michael Murphy.

Happy Easter to everyone. NDRL fixtures resume on April, 27.
