SOUTH Sydney’s Greg Inglis, no stranger to creating rugby league miracles, now has 10 days to conjure another one.
Roughly 24 hours after suffering a serious ankle injury in Perth, the Queensland star told close friends he would be doing “whatever it takes” to get himself right for Origin II at ANZ Stadium on Wednesday week.
But the 27-year-old, who was initially thought to have a syndesmosis injury which would mean at least a month on the sidelines, will be sweating on the results of medical scans.
Arriving in Sydney on crutches, and with his right foot in a moon boot, Inglis, Dylan Walker (thumb) and Bryson Goodwin (elbow) were taken for scans.
Inglis was reportedly upbeat when discussing the injury with friends and Souths officials. “But in terms of an official diagnosis, we have no news,’’ a Rabbitohs spokesman said. “It looks like Dylan Walker has a fractured thumb, which would rule him out for four to six weeks.”
There are suggestions Queensland will pick Inglis and then give him the entire camp to prove his fitness.
Before flying out of Perth, where his Bunnies beat the Warriors 34-18, Inglis posted on Instagram that he “should be sweet” for Origin II, and posted a picture of himself with a Game Ready recovery device on the flight.
“#gameready #icemachine on the #red-eye #flight home. No sleep, #recovery and plenty, plenty of icing this ankle.”
