On Thursday July 17, the community of Pittsworth and many from afar bid farewell to Susan Manktelow, the much loved wife and mother of Craig, Brady and Darby Manktelow.

Sue was a very well respected member of the Pittsworth community and spent countless volunteer hours on various committees over the years.

Sue’s affiliation with Junior Rugby League began in 2004 when eldest son Brady began playing as a six-year- old for the Pittsworth Danes.

During this period she would do volunteer hours in the canteen and BBQ, then in 2009 she took on the secretary role for Pittsworth & District Zone 4.

Sue was not what you would call your “normal” secretary as she never did anything by halves, continually going above and beyond in every aspect of her role, thus ensuring the best possible outcome for the club.

She also administered the Pittsworth & District Zone 4 website which she introduced to the club as well as running a highly successful touch footy comp after the regular Zone season had finished.

The Pittsworth & District Zone 4 Club has just hosted the annual carnival where Under 12s from Ipswich, Gold Coast, Jandowae & Western Downs, Charleville, Roma and Pittsworth came together to play in the week-long event during the June/July school holidays.

With Sue's meticulous planning, she not only arranged this formidable competition, but also oversaw all aspects of the carnival, culminating in an extremely successful Zone 4 dinner on the second last night of competition hosted by Steve Haddan and hailed as the best that many had ever attended.

In 2012 PDJRL was awarded the 2013 Queensland Junior State Championships to host and a committee was formed. Once again Sue put her hand up, playing a pivotal role in the great success of the carnival, sourcing thousands of sponsorship dollars to make it one of the best carnivals ever.

In October last year Sue again volunteered, this time to fill the vacant position of treasurer of the Pittsworth & District Junior Rugby League. This seemed like a natural progression for her as eldest son Brady is in his last year of junior league and youngest son Darby has three years to go.

As always, Sue gave her all to this job, helping the club transition into the new on-line registration process. Her knowledge and understanding made this a much easier task for all involved.

Sue will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all. Her legacy will certainly live on, not only in her two sons, but once again due to her generosity, a total of 28 people have benefited from her selflessness, this time as an organ donor.
