CONGRATULATIONS to the Theodore Roosters who are this year’s first winners of the XXXX Club of the Week competition.

The competition has been established by the Queensland Rugby League and long-term sponsors XXXX to help reward senior clubs that are making a positive difference in their community.

XXXX Regional Director Damien Mori was pleased to be able to support clubs like the Roosters via this initiative.

“Congratulations to the Theodore Roosters on being named the XXXX Club of the Week,” Mr Mori said.

“Through our partnership with the QRL, we are delighted to assist clubs at a senior grassroots level in a variety of ways.

“The XXXX Club of the Week initiative forms part of this support for the clubs throughout Queensland and over past 12 months alone, XXXX have invested more than $750,000 to the development of programs to help provide much needed local area funding, prizes, equipment and signage across the rugby league community.

“On behalf of all the team at XXXX we wish the Theodore Roosters and all other clubs the best of luck for the remainder of the season.”

For the Roosters – it’s a case of lightning striking twice, with the club having taken out one of the weekly prizes last year.

“The whole community is getting behind us,” club representative Ray Johnston said.

“We are a small community; there’s only about 1000 of us, but we get about 300 to every home game.”

Last year, Ray was the secretary of the senior club – but this year he is the team manager for the A Grade side.

Ray also writes stories for the Queensland Rugby League website as one of the www.QRL.com.au correspondents who report on local league football.

The Roosters play in the Central Burnett competition.

Each weekly winner will receive some great prizes including XXXX merchandise and a ball signed by the victorious Queensland State of Origin team from Game 3, 2014.

All winning entries will also go in the draw to win the grand final prize of $5000 worth of food, beverage and entertainment for an end of season function at your club.

My name is Ray Johnston and I am the players’ manager for the Theodore Roosters Rugby League Club and I would like to put our team into the QRL’s XXXX Club of the Week competition.

This year is only our second year back into rugby league and after a very successful year last year finishing third overall and we are currently sitting on top of the Central Burnett table for 2014.

Earlier this year, our club had a Reconciliation Round against Cherbourg here in Theodore where the proceeds were then donated back to our junior club for their trip to the Gold Coast for all juniors.

Also on this day, the Theodore women also participated, as well as juniors. With the involvement of juniors, women’s and seniors; this has brought our community back together after such devastating floods which our town had to be evacuated  and most homes and sporting clubs destroyed.

This is a huge effort from our community, teams, players and committees to get these up and running again with great success.

Regards,

Ray Johnston
