DESPITE it being the off-season, there is still of lot of rugby league news coming out Rockhampton – with the junior clubs and referees wrapping up a successful year while planning ahead to next season. Read about some of the updates below:

ROCKHAMPTON Brothers Juniors finished off the year with their annual charity dinner in support of Camp Quality and Cancer Council Queensland.

The night helped raise awareness for the two local organisations as well as raise funds for the two groups.

The club welcomed back North Queensland Cowboy Sam Hoare and former Broncos Under 20 and new Queensland Reds recruit Duncan Paia’Aua for the night along with former Bulldog great and current CQ Capras coach Jason Hetherington.

It was great to hear what the two former local boys had been up too and how they are handling their new careers in football.

THE Rockhampton Referee Association has commenced training for the 2015 season with the QRL employing a strength and conditioning coach to work with the local referees.

Numbers have been steady in the first couple of weeks and it is good to see a number of very good younger referees getting a head start for next season.

Sessions are being held at Voss Park on Tuesday and Thursday evenings up until Christmas. Contact Toby on 0448 917 715 for further information.

ALL of the junior clubs have completed their AGMs in preparation for the 2015 season.

The Rockhampton & District Junior Committee was voted in at the AGM on Saturday, November 15, with Paul Jensen re-elected as president, Trudy Baker as secretary and Doris Wheeler as treasurer.

The International season will commence early February and run through to June with the Mini Mods to start after Easter and run through to September.

The RDJRL are seeking sponsors for their 2015 representative sides with packages available for the Under 13, Under 14 and Under 16 teams or as a group.

This year, the Rockhampton representative sides will travel to Gladstone to compete in the Junior Capra trials. Contact Paul Jensen or Michael Fletcher on 0428 113 148 for further details.

The Rockhampton & District Junior Rugby League Rhys Wesser “Dream Believe Achieve” Super 9s Shield will be held in the April school holidays on Friday, April 10 and Saturday, April 11.

The carnival will commence at Victoria Park on the Friday before finishing at Browne Park with all the finals as lead games to a CQ Capras home game on the Saturday afternoon.

The NRL Development Team will also hold a clinic with Rhys for children aged 6 -12 on the Saturday morning.

More details will be provided in January 2015.
