The Townsville & District Blackhawks have today announced the signing of Townsville-born try scoring machine Jonathon Reuben.

The lightning fast winger has a host of accolades already in his short career, including being named in the NRL’s 2013 Holden Cup Team of the Year and the competition’s leading try-scorer whilst playing for the Canberra Raiders Under 20’s (NYC) side.

Reuben is also sixth in the all-time list for the NYC with most career tries.

Reuben was born and raised in Townsville and played his junior football at the Centrals Tigers. He returns to North Queensland after four years of playing rugby league in Canberra and Sydney.

Jonathon is the brother of Townsville local league stalwart Sam Reuben who still coaches junior rugby league.

“Jonathon comes to us well prepared. He has been in the Roosters system for the past 12 months playing NSW Cup and prior to that was one of the leading players in the Under 20’s competition. We know he will hit the ground running,” Football Operations Manager Adrian Thomson said today.

“He is a local boy who gets to come home and play in the inaugural Townsville & Districts Mendi Blackhawks team, I think he’s excited about that.”

Reuben is sure to add some spark to the Blackhawks backline with his devastating speed and natural ability to find the line. The soon to be 22-year-old already knows many of his teammates through his time in the Under 20’s system and is looking forward to making a statement in the 2015 Intrust Super Cup.
