Maroons great Brent Tate will remain heavily involved with the Queensland Rugby League after today being announced as an ambassador for the Maroon Members program.

The much admired 23-game Origin veteran will spring into the role this Monday when he joins former teammate Petero Civoniceva and Queensland coach Mal Meninga in New Zealand.

The trio will travel to Auckland with QRL staff to promote 2015 membership packages as part of the ground-breaking ‘Be MarooNZ’ tour.

“Having spent three enjoyable years with the Warriors, I know just how passionate New Zealanders are about their rugby league and now we want to go and meet them in person,” Tate said.

“Hopefully this visit will entice even more fans to back the Maroons at State of Origin time.

“I definitely got a kick out of the support I received from so many people over there and it was great to see Jacob Lillyman experience a similar thing in his return to the Origin arena last year.”

Along with being a membership ambassador, the former Cowboys and Broncos flyer will further engage with the QRL as a mentor to the state’s rising talent involved in Emerging Origin squads and Queensland under age teams.

QRL Managing Director Robert Moore said he was thrilled to have a person of Tate’s calibre on board to connect with fans and young Queensland playing talent.

Moore said the ‘Be MarooNZ’ tour would provide a unique opportunity for both the QRL and league lovers from the neighbouring country.

“Over the past four years we’ve recorded a 76 percent increase in the number of New Zealand-based fans travelling to Queensland to watch Origin, so it makes sense that we try to strengthen our supporter base through this broader approach,” Moore said.

“We’ve identified there is a strong market in New Zealand and this tour gives us the chance to meet with existing members and find potential members face to face via numerous community visits, NRL related activities and formal events.”

Maroon Membership packages are currently on sale for all supporters wishing to stand with Meninga’s Maroons in 2015.

Ticketed membership guarantees your seat to the only Origin match in Brisbane this year – Game Three at Suncorp Stadium on July 8.

In a further incentive, supporters who sign up to become a ticketed Maroon Member will instantly be in the running to win a fabulous Mazda3 SP25 as part of the QRL's new partnership with Mazda Australia.

General Public tickets will be released for sale on March 17 (9am) through Ticketek.
