The Rockhampton Leagues Club CQ Capras have continued to bring the locals home in preparation for a successful 2015 season in the Intrust Super Cup.
Today the Capras are pleased to announce the signing of former Rockhampton local and NRL coach Anthony “Hook” Griffin to finalise preparations for the new season.
Griffin joins the CQ Capras as a coaching consultant providing specialised coaching advice and strategy to the Capras head coach Jason Hetherington and all Capras coaching staff.
Griffin was raised in Rockhampton and involved in rugby league as both a player and then a coach, before moving to further his coaching career.
After a few stints in Queensland's Intrust Super Cup, Griffin took the reins of the Broncos Under 20s. Griffin was named as the Broncos’ NRL head coach for seasons 2011 to 2014.
The entire Capras organisation feels privileged to have a coaching resource of the calibre of Griffin involved in the club.
His signing continues the “bring them home” campaign, a strategy around attracting local talent back to the region.
This has already led to the signings of CQ players such as Matt Minto, Javarn White, Jarrod Earle and Nathan Young.
“It’s great to have Hook at home and a real coup for the Capras football program,”’ said an excited Capras Chairman Geoff Murphy.
“Anthony provides a point of difference between the Capras and all other Intrust Super Cup teams, he really adds to the credibility of our brand. The other positive is that Anthony is a local and automatically brings pride and passion for the Central Queensland region.”
CQ Capras coach Jason Hetherington was just as pleased.
“Hook will be good for myself and the boys. NRL experience and a CQ background, what more could you want,” he said.
“I think Anthony is a fantastic addition to our program. My intention is to gain as much knowledge and guidance from Hook as I can which in turn will help with on field results in 2015.”
The appointment of Griffin into this coaching consultancy role will not only aid the CQ Capras but will also provide better opportunity for the development of all local coaches.
One of the services to be provided by Griffin on behalf of the CQ Capras is a local Coaches Seminar. This event will be held over a full weekend so that all local coaches in Central Queensland will have the opportunity to benefit from his knowledge and experience.
The Rockhampton Leagues Club CQ Capras will play their first trial match in Rockhampton on February 7.
