Absolute Enterprises Mackay Cutters squad member Hayden Butler sadly passed away in Mackay on Monday morning at the age of 20.

Hayden signed with the Cutters in October last year and relocated to Mackay in early January to commence training with the squad.  He had played the previous season with the Burleigh Bears but he was a proud Victorian who had progressed through the Melbourne Storm junior ranks under current Cutters coach Kim Williams.

Hayden was a natural leader who had made an immediate impact at the Cutters with his friendly nature and determined attitude.  He had many close friends at the club who had played with him throughout his junior career and were looking forward to playing alongside him again in 2015.

This is an extremely difficult time for the Mackay Cutters as a club and also our players that formed a close bond with Hayden during his short time in Mackay.  Our thoughts and prayers remain with his family during this difficult period.

All players and staff within the Mackay Cutters organisation have been informed and will continue to support each other.  We met as a group at midday on Monday and while nothing prepares you for these situations the players and support staff are united in their wishes for Hayden’s family.  The group has and will continue to be offered professional support during this time from both the NRL and QRL.  We request that everyone respect the privacy of those directly affected by Hayden’s passing.
