The Border Rugby League competition is just about to commence its 2015 season and there has been an exciting new development for junior players in the area with the establishment of an Under 18 representative team.

There were 22 Under 18 players who played in their first trial match on Saturday, March 7 in Stanthorpe against the Inverell Hawks from Group 19 in NSW. Players were selected from the four BRL clubs; the Stanthorpe Gremlins, Tenterfield Tigers, Wallangarra Rams and Killarney Cutters.

Considering some of the players had not even met each other before the game, or completed any proper training together, they competed admirably on behalf of their respective clubs.

Due to Under 18 player numbers the local BRL clubs are unable to field a full competition, but are now endeavoring to host a number of other games against other Under 18 representative teams in the QRL Central Division throughout the year.

Hopefully this initiative of the BRL will encourage our young rugby league players to continue to play in their local areas for many years to come.

If any club or representative team would like to arrange a match in coming months, please contact Michael Jensen, QRL Central Division, Operations Manager on 0439 735 865.
