TWO young men will carry famous names onto Bishop Park this afternoon when the Queensland Universities Residents team faces the Great Britain Armed Forces outfit.

The student Maroons have been brought together from the six-team Universities Rugby League Queensland competition to face the Brits, who are in Brisbane to play the Australian Defence Forces side as a curtain raiser to Origin Game III on Wednesday.

In the Queensland backline will be Lachlan Boustead and Jessie Domic.

Domic, the captain of the Queensland team, is a student at Griffith University and the son of Sid Domic who played 92 NRL games with the Broncos and Panthers.

Boustead is the son of Origin original Kerry Boustead.

Boustead senior played for both NSW and Queensland in the days when Origin was being established, but the 25-Test veteran was always a staunch Queenslander after growing up in Innisfail.

Today his son will play in a maroon jersey.

“It is the first time and I have some big shoes to fill – even though they are only little feet,” quipped Lachlan Boustead, a centre who plays several kilos heavier than his speedy, lightweight father.

“I used to play rugby union and I think that frustrated him a bit.

“But he is very happy and just gave me the usual parental congratulations.

“I am lucky to be in a family that loves footy as much as mine does, and I just can’t wait to play.”

Domic will skipper the side from five-eighth alongside experienced halfback Casey Bromilow.

The jersey has been well earned for primary education student Domic, who missed his first chance to play for his state when part of an Under 16 Indigenous side.

“I was unlucky when I was chosen to play for an Under 16 Murri team before an All Stars game,” Domic said.

“I had a scan on my knee and they found a cyst and I had to have an operation.

“Dad is really keen for the game and the whole family is coming down to watch.”

The Queensland team is coached by Jamie Dowse and will kick off against the Great Britain Armed Forces side at Bishop Park at 5pm today.
