The Village Motors Redcliffe Dolphins have announced the appointment of Anthony Griffin as the club’s head coach for the 2016 season.

“It’s a real back to the future type appointment for the club as Anthony has had a great history with us and was our last premiership winning coach in 2006,” General Manager of Football Operations, Grant Cleal, said.

Griffin’s first Dolphins appointment came in 1995 as the Development Manager.

He coached the Colts to a premiership in 1997 before departing.

After working in the Melbourne Storm system he returned to the Peninsula in 2005 to take on the role of head coach - going on to win the title in 2006 and making the Grand Final in 2007.

In 2008 he began his tenure at the Brisbane Broncos, guiding their inaugural National Youth Competition side to a Grand Final.

Appointed as Broncos head coach in 2011, Griffin took them to three finals series in his 101 game, four-year term.

“Hook has a great reputation here and his return is very exciting for the club [and] its players and Staff. There are no other coaches at this level with his NRL record and experience and he will no doubt be back in the NRL at some stage,” Cleal said.

The Dolphins last Grand Final appearance came in 2012 and Griffin said it was an honour and privilege to coach again.

“The Redcliffe Dolphins are a magnificent club with great fans, and I am looking forward to working hard with the players and staff,” he said.
