Valleys celebrate their Under 16 grand final win.

Last Saturday saw the end to the Toowoomba Junior Rugby League season with some quality grand final games.

The day was forecast to be cold and rainy and unfortunately it ended up that way after the sunshine and great conditions for the first four games.

Congratulations to all the teams that took away the silverware and the coaching staff for getting all the kids there. It has been a great season for the local league and we hope it continues into 2016.

We would also like to thank our referees and touch judges for doing a great job on Saturday. Also thanks to the referee coordinators Terry Phillips and Bill Rushton and mentors Peter Tozer, Rex Little, Bill Mitchell and Glen Richardson from the NRL referees for turning up to give the boys support for the day.

In a touching gesture, the Gatton players and some supporters released purple balloons after a minute silence to pay tribute to their recent loss of Gatton teenager Jayde Kendall, before the kick-off of the U13/14 Dev Cup game. We give our sincere condolences to Jayde’s family and friends during this sad time.

The under 16’s game was a tough encounter and the score line didn’t reflect on the type of game it was. Both sides dug deep in the wet conditions and can all be very proud of themselves. Valleys played out of their skins and were deserved winners of the U16 flag.

The TJRL would like to congratulate all the under 16’s from every club for playing junior footy and wish them all the best in their future endeavours and hope they decide to go on to play senior footy for their respective clubs.

On behalf of the Toowoomba Junior Rugby League, I would also like to sincerely thank our President Jackie Stephson for her years of dedication to junior league. She has spent countless hours to keep our league strong over the past 10 years whether it be as President, Secretary, Treasurer or tour host of rep sides. Jackie has decided to step down as President but still be involved helping with rep administration. Best wishes to you Jackie and we know we will see you around at footy in years to come.
