THE Queensland Universities Residents team have the chance to showcase their own talents when they meet the NRL Rookies team at Tapout Energy Stadium (Langlands Park) tomorrow (September 2) at 3.30pm.

The NRL Rookies team are fighting each other for an NRL contract in the Foxtel TV production.

But tomorrow they will have to take on the best of the state’s students, who play in the league run by the Universities Rugby League Queensland.

The URLQ postponed the final round of their Wednesday night competition until next week to take up the opportunity to face the NRL Rookies.

The Residents team has already served their competition well, defeating the Great Britain Armed Forces team 22-18 in a match at Bishop Park in July.

This will be a much tougher test, but URLQ chairman Martin Unicomb said it would be an exciting outing for the players.

“Our guys have obviously never been anywhere near an NRL system, so this will be a big challenge for them,” said Unicomb.

“They are expecting to face some guys that are bigger and stronger, but it is the test they are looking forward to.

“It will be another exciting representative opportunity for players out of our competition.”

The Residents team will be captained by Jesse Domic, the son of former NRL player Sid Domic, who studies at Griffith University.

Jamie Dowse will coach the Queensland team.
