The Queensland Rugby League will join with the rest of the Rugby League community in supporting White Ribbon Day today (November 25).

White Ribbon is Australia’s only national, male-led campaign to end men’s violence against women.

The campaign works through primary prevention initiatives involving awareness-raising and education and programs with youth, schools, workplaces and across the broader community.

“[Today] marks the beginning of a 16-day call for action which commences on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and concludes on December 10, Human Rights Day,” NRL Chief Operating Officer Suzanne Young said.

“The 16 days of activism against gender based violence aims to raise public awareness and mobile people from all around the world to bring about change.

“The NRL actively promotes and supports November 25 and White Ribbon Day as part of its proud partnership with White Ribbon Australia and to reiterate the Game’s stance that violence against women and children is never acceptable.”

Today, all QRL staff and visitors to the Head Office at Suncorp Stadium will be able to purchase a white ribbon to show their support for the cause.

Wearing a white ribbon (or wristband) is a personal pledge that the wearer does not excuse violence against women, and is committed to supporting community action to stop violence by men against women.

Men who wear a white ribbon or wristband demonstrate their opposition to violence against women and their commitment to equality between women and men.

Another way for people to show their support is to take the White Ribbon Oath:

I will stand up, speak out and act to prevent men’s violence against women.

White Ribbons ($2 each) and Oath Forms are available from Reception with money raised to be donated to the White Ribbon organisation.

*The NRL is a White Ribbon Partner:

White Ribbon Partners share a strong strategic alignment with the mission and values of the White Ribbon Campaign. Partners are an integral part of White Ribbon’s strategy to expand the reach and impact of prevention initiatives and do this by sponsoring activities and/or primary prevention programs.

Organisations play a pivotal part in preventing men's violence against women and are key to ensuring the success of White Ribbon in a way that is sustainable, strategic and effective.
Every organisation we work with acknowledges that men’s violence against women is a serious and prevalent issue in the Australian community. They share our vision that all women live in safety, free from violence and abuse.

They see an active role for their organisation in preventing violence against women including working with their own staff, networks and customers; and supporting the primary prevention work of White Ribbon Australia.
