Melbourne Storm will be without representative centre Will Chambers for the next three months after he suffered a foot fracture in Monday night’s game against Canterbury Bulldogs.
Scans yesterday afternoon revealed the extent of the injury he sustained early in the first half of the match. After consultation with the surgeon, Chambers will undergo surgery this afternoon.
Chambers is expected to be sidelined for 12-14 weeks.
Melbourne Storm Football Director Frank Ponissi said, “Will is a tough character and was able to play out the match thinking he had just rolled his ankle, it wasn’t until his foot swelled overnight after the game that we thought something more serious had happened.

“Will has been an extremely resilient player since returning to the Club, having only missed two games through injury since the 2012 Qualifying Final.
“We are extremely disappointed to lose Will, he’s an important part of our team and has been a consistent part of our line-up for the last three seasons resulting in well-deserved selection in the Queensland State of Origin and Australian Kangaroos sides.
“While we’ve suffered some injuries to our outside back stocks in the early part of the season, it provides us another chance to give an opportunity to some of our younger players who have shown consistent form with our feeder teams,” Ponissi said.
Melbourne Storm will name Chambers’ replacement for Sunday’s game against Wests Tigers an hour before kick-off.
