Capras claim rare back-to-back victory against Souths Logan

by QRL Media

The CQ Capras posted their first back-to-back win since 2013 with their 28-16 result over Souths Logan at Yeppoon on Saturday night.

While they were technically the ‘away’ team at Webb Park, the 1000+ crowd were cheering for them against the Magpies and they were entertained early – with the CQ side pushing to a 10-0 lead with tries to Justin Tavae in the fourth minute and five-eighth Maipele Morseau at the half-hour mark.

However, the Magpies got on the board when big forward George Fai showed some speed to go over for his second try in as many weeks with four minutes to go to the halftime break.

But that was not to be the end of the try-scoring for the first half – with Capras winger Junior Kirisome making sure his side had the last laugh before oranges, touching down in the far right corner for a 14-4 lead.

He had his double almost as soon as play resumed – capitalising on some frenetic play from his side that included a lucky bounce, quick hands, right to left passing and a great kick to the Magpies in-goal area.

Peter Gallen’s try moments later pushed the Capras to a 22-4 lead and it got his team celebrating.

However, Souths Logan – who were missing the go-forward of prop Herman Ese’ese who was called into the Broncos team that defeated the Rabbitohs on Friday night – rallied to post the next two tries to Leon Panapa and Tevita Pangai to narrow the margin to a converted try with just over 15 minutes remaining in the match.

But the Capras were able to hold on and Brandon Manase’s try in the shadows of full time put the result beyond doubt and handed his side their fourth win of the season.
