Go in for kill, coach urges young Falcons as Magpies earn draw

by melbournestorm.com.au

Sunshine Coast were left to rue poor kicking after their 16-16 draw at home with Souths Logan Magpies on Sunday.

The match served as a tough lesson for the young Falcons team who were unable to put their opponents away despite scoring four tries to two.

“We are just a young side, we’ve got to learn to put teams away and be more proactive. We really just didn’t value the footy like we should have,” Falcons coach Craig Ingebrigtsen said.

“They are just not used to putting a team away like we have to and if they don’t learn it quickly we are not going to be playing footy at the right end of the season.

“I am just guttered for the playing group, their effort is really good and you can tell in their actions.”

Sunshine Coast trailed 8-4 at half-time but hit the lead when Sam Young scored his second and Tony Tumusa added another in the 58th minute.

The Magpies nudged in front soon after before Alex Bishop’s try on the 73rd minute levelled the scores with no team able to break the deadlock in the closing stages.

Thunderbolts product Jake Turpin steered the ship for the home side at hooker while Tumusa was back on the wing after a prolonged injury absence.

“He scored a really good try, his carries out of dummy half were good and made metres for us,” Ingebrigtsen said.

“He will get better for that run which is a good thing. He scored a really important try towards the end of the game, he is a really good finisher Tony and he has done a really good job for us when he has played for us during the year.”

The Falcons are in eighth place on the Intrust Super Cup ladder and will have the bye this weekend; while the Magpies will be looking to continue their good form when they travel to Cairns to face the Northern Pride.
