The round’s only Saturday game is set to be an enticing encounter with the Seagulls looking to win their fifth game on the trot against a confident Capras outfit. The visitors from Central Queensland produced a stunning first-half performance against the PNG Hunters last weekend to set up their impressive win – and coach Kim Williams has left much of that team intact for this clash against the Gulls. In this week’s 18-man squad, Lance Kuveu has been omitted with Brandon Manase and Vic Halfpenny added to the side. Last Sunday, Wynnum won the battle of the Seagulls defeating Tweed Heads 30-16, with their early season woes now far behind them. The home side hold a huge 28-8 head-to-head advantage over the Capras and have won the past eight out of nine games played between the two sides. They are also hard to beat at home, with Central's last win at Kougari Oval coming in 2010. Wynnum fullback Daniel Ogden is set to play in his 50th Cup game for the club and 145th overall having spent a long portion of his career at Norths. He also only requires two more tries to draw level with Donald Malone as second highest Cup try scorer in history on 117.

The Ipswich Jets will host their Harmony Day game on Sunday – but the PNG Hunters should not expect a friendly reception on the field with the home side desperate to rid themselves of their form funk. Their heavy loss to the Easts Tigers was only the sixth time the club have conceded 50+ points at home. While the Jets have lost their past five home games – the first time this has happened since 2010 when they lost six in a row – the Hunters haven’t had much luck on the road in recent weeks and have lost three of their past four away games. However, they do have a good recent record against their opponents this week, as the Jets haven’t beaten them at the North Ipswich Reserve since their first ever clash back in 2014 where they claimed a 25-12 win. The Hunters would be hugely disappointed with their loss to the Capras last weekend – having given them a 20-4 head start by halftime. Despite their customary second-half fightback; it was not enough to overcome the committed effort of the CQ side. Coach Michael Marum will be hoping his side have learnt from that performance and can turn it around this weekend. – with Michael Nunn

When these two sides met at Langlands Park last season it was one of the games of the year with Easts bringing the fight to the competition heavyweights to play out a 40-40 draw. With both teams coming into this clash in good form and having each put more than 50 points past their Round 11 opposition – the prospects of another classic match are promising.  However, NRL duty has affected the visitors, with fullback Jahrome Hughes and Ray Thompson called up to play for the Origin-depleted Cowboys. Such is their depth, they have still managed to name a formidable side, with Herzon Murgha to take over the custodian role. A noted try scorer, he requires two more to bring up 50 in the Cup. The Tigers have named an extended squad packed with talent – including Storm-affiliated players, such as young half Brodie Croft who impressed in his first outing for the Tigers in their big win over the Jets last weekend. Blackhawks coach Kristian Woolf told his club website earlier in the week that he was expecting a tough outing against a fellow top-four side. “Easts have been playing really well and are a top-four side so it will certainly be a challenge for us,” he said. In some fun speculation, there have been rumours on social media that NQ favourite Matt Bowen would take to the field for the Townsville side.

XXXX Rivalry Match of the Round
Redcliffe Dolphins v Burleigh Bears

While most fans of these two sides won’t want to say too much out loud, many league fans are wondering if this is the year these powerhouse clubs live up to their potential. The second-placed Bears travel to Redcliffe to take on the fifth-placed Dolphins in a ‘battle of the bays’ where a win would add more credibility to their premiership credentials. The Dolphins produced a dominant performance in their opening half against the Devils last weekend on their way to their 52-10 win, a welcome return to the winners circle following two frustratingly close losses to the Pride in Round 10 (20-16) and the PNG Hunters in Round 9 (22-18). It was the first time the side had played in front of their home fans this season and they made it worth their while in their nine-tries-to-two victory, with their forwards leading the way. The Bears big men have also been the key performers for their team this season, including in last weekend’s slogfest against the Northern Pride. Redcliffe will once again be hoping to impress their home fans, but Burleigh have been enjoying themselves away from home, winning their past five away games. In a sign of how hard-fought the games between these two sides have been in the past; the home team has only won one of the past eight games played.

After showing some early season promise, the Devils have lost their past four matches – but will be hoping their return home to Bishop Park can spark them to add to their winning tally against Tweed Heads. The Seagulls have had the better of the contests in recent times and have won three on the trot. Aaron Zimmerle’s men come to Nundah off a loss to feathered rivals Wynnum Manly, who halted their winning run of three in a row last weekend. The Seagulls – who have named an unchanged side for this match – don’t have a great record on the road this year posting four losses in their past four away outings. However, the Devils also have a slump of their own to break and have been defeated in three of their past four home games. In the only change to their team from last weekend, lock Jai Arrow has been called up to make his second NRL appearance for the Broncos to help fill the void in the forwards due to State of Origin Game I on Wednesday, with Billy Solah named in his place.

Northern Pride v Souths Logan Magpies

A Scott Doyle penalty goal after the siren saw Souths Logan snare a share of the competition points against the Falcons last weekend – with those two points bringing his tally to 208 for the club. He now sits equal third with Quentin Laulu-Togagae; only Matt Lockyer (226) and Brett Kelly (258) have more. Although they played hard for their draw – the Magpies can consider themselves lucky – with the Falcons outscoring them four tries to two – but they were unable to land any conversions. Coach Josh Hannay however was pleased with his team’s efforts and feels they are finally starting to build some momentum – however, they will have to overcome a poor record at Barlow Park if they are to upset the Pride. The home side have won 10 of their past 11 games at Barlow Park, while the Magpies have only won once in eight previous attempts. Last weekend, the Pride were beaten in their ‘home’ game against the Bears – but it was played at the home of the Roosters in Atherton. The Magpies travel north without backrower Tevita Pangai who has been called up to the Broncos for their game against the Tigers tonight. Pangai played for the Junior Kangaroos earlier this year and has been in good form. The Pride have also seen a player move up to the NRL this week to fill in for missing Origin stars with Javid Bowen named on the Cowboys wing.
