Tugun Seahawks v Ormeau Shearers
The match of the round will see the Tugun Seahawks play the Ormeau Shearers at Boyd St on Sunday, May 29.
The Seahawks are back in full swing as they defeat the Runaway Bay Seagulls last weekend.
Standout players Chris Hodges, Dylan Nash and Ryan Perry showed great support and strength coming off the bench.
Coach Martin Griese said he hoped the boys could stick to their structure, process and concentrate on their game, not the opposition.
Goal kicker and five-eighth Reece Worboys will be out with injury..
After Ormeau secured their second win of the season, heads are high leading into this week’s clash against the Seahawks.
The Shearers will shuffle players in positions as halfback Lorenzo Chung-Kwan returns from injury and fullback Carlo Putaranui returns home.
Coach John Flint was pleased with the boy’s preparations as Tugun are known to play the full 80 minutes and are always hungry for a win.
Runaway Bay Seagulls v Bilambil Jets
The Jets narrowly missed out on their first win as the Ormeau Shearers took a penalty kick on the full time buzzer to win 20-18.
As always the Jets are positive about continually building the team’s strength and match experience.
Coach Troy McClean was pleased with how the boys did their individual parts in contributing to the team and constantly sticking together.
Although the Jets first half was impressive, sticking to the game plan to secure a win was the main focus.
McClean said: “We are just a little inexperienced and need to be more patient.”
Knowing these key points, the Jets have a tough match ahead taking on the Seagulls who are equally eager for a win.
Nursing some bumps and bruises after their physical match against the Tugun Seahawks, the Runaway Bay Seagulls are training to work on their match structure.
Narrowly missing out on a win against the Seahawks, the Seagulls are preparing for a mentally tough match against the Jets.
Southport Tigers v Tweed Heads Seagulls
The Southport Tigers are yet to be defeated at home. Sunday’s clash will be with the top of the ladder Tweed Heads Seagulls at Owen Park.
The Seagulls were feeling strong after a solid match against the Burleigh Bears.
Player’s player three weeks in a row Trent Smith and Josh Harvey are two for Southport to look out for.
Although loosing Dane Clarke to a pectoral injury, which will see him out of action for the rest of the season, coach Clint Barends said he hoped the boys could continue working on their ball control and completion rates in the lead-up to this weekend’s clash.
The Tigers have a great record playing at home, they are fit and ready for a tough match ahead.
An honourable mention to Troy Leo who returned from injury last week and scored a hat-trick. The Tigers will have to switch on for the full 80 minutes and not show weakness as the match progresses.
Burleigh Bears v Currumbin Eagles
The Burleigh Bears and Currumbin Eagles will be hunting for a win as they both lost in last weekend’s matches.
Watch for a battle of the fullbacks as Bear Sam Grant and Eagle Kyle Ramage stand out from the crowd.
Although losing against the Tweed Heads Seagulls, Bears Coach Matt Foster was pleased with the boy’s performance and the display of football from both sides.
Gaining confidence and experience defending one of the top teams, the Bears are excited and know the Eagles are always strong hitters.
Foster said: “We are learning each week and the boys did a lot of good things over the weekend which is a positive.”
Although a couple players will be out for injury, the Eagles may see their defensive line tested this weekend as they nurse a hand full of forward pack injuries.
Coach James Griffiths is determined the boys can work on controlling the ruck and rebuilding the team’s structure.
Griffiths said: “As long as the boys can show a complete 80 minutes of effort I will be pleased with their performance.”
