The Redcliffe Dolphins cemented their spot atop the FOGS Colts Challenge ladder with a 36–28 win over the Burleigh Bears at Dolphin Oval on Sunday (May 29).

The Dolphin’s doubled their 18-points halftime tally with three converted second-half tries.

The strong season so far – 10 wins from a possible 11 – had been built on a defence emphasis, Dolphins coach Mike Roberts said.

“We’ve got a lot of new faces this season, so we’ve essentially started over,” he said.

“We’ve been focusing heavily on our defence with this new team and just making sure we work cohesively together.”

This weekend the Dolphins battle Souths Logan Magpies who they rolled 46-8 in Round 2.

Roberts said the Dolphins needed to keep pushing hard to maintain their ladder superiority.

“We let in too many points against Burleigh last weekend, so we’ll definitely be working hard this week ahead of our match against the Souths,” Roberts said.

“[Souths] are improving so much throughout the season, so they’ll be tough competitors for us next weekend. We’re always looking to do better.”

Souths Logan Magpies had a close call against the Wynnum Manly Seagulls on Saturday, clinching a 22–20 victory at BMD Kougari Oval.

Elsewhere in Round 12, the Ipswich Jets defeated the Toowoomba Clydesdales 32-18 at North Ipswich Reserve, and the Tweed Heads Seagulls took down the Norths Devils 32-14 at Bishop Park.

REDCLIFFE DOLPHINS 36 (Bailey Rogers, Lachlan Hall, Justin Lewis, Agassi Stowers, Tyrone Hussey, Samuel Leach tries; Reece Braun 6 goals) def BURLEIGH BEARS 28 (Jordan Hornburg 2, Friedrich Keil, Liam Wyper, Ethan Paikea, Keanu Rimene tries; Liam Wyper 2 goals) at Dolphin Oval.
