It was a nail-bitter with only a try between the two sides, but it was the Capras who proved too good for the Mackay Cutters 24-20 in Round 14 of the Intrust Super Cup at Rockhampton on Saturday.
Winger Adam Henry scored four tries to help get his team over the line and Capras coach Kim Williams was pleased with his performance.
“It would have to be his best game of the year, he is a good club man and this will be great for his confidence,” Williams said.
“I had a one-on-one chat with him in the lead-up to this game and spoke about what areas he could improve and it was good to see him get to this higher level.”
With a heavy loss against the Redcliffe Dolphins last week, Williams has a strong focus on defence for his young squad.
“We have a very young side and they are still learning the structures in defence, but it is a work in progress,” Williams said.
“We have a large number of 20 to 21 year-olds and there are about eight-to-nine 9 players playing their first year.
“This is something that will come with experience once they have played their first year of footy at this level.
“This is a massive improvement from last year, we are only one point out of the top six and consistency is all that we need to further improve as we continue this year.”
Next week, the Capras will come up against the Norths Devils at Salter Oval in Bundaberg.
“As this game is in Bundaberg, we are seeing it as a home game and it will be a good contest against the Devils,” Williams said.
“The last time we played them was in Round 2, they got out to an early lead which we were able to close up, but they were too good.
“They have won a few on the trot, but they are not high on the ladder and they will be desperate.
“We will need to be at our best to make sure we minimise errors and get all the little things right.”
