Ipswich Jets fought off a gutsy challenge from Carina to maintain their unbeaten streak in the Brisbane Rugby League.

Missing several key playermakers including fullback Ono So’Oialo and hooker Peter Whittaker, the Jets were forced to call on their depth to form a new-look spine.

While at times slightly clunky, they had enough punch for a 30-12 win over a Carina side left to rue dropped ball at crucial moments.

Down 18-6 at the break, Carina struck first after the break through a barging run inspirational skipper Steve Tyrrell.

But despite a fair share of field position and possession, Peter Edwards boys were unable to land an equaliser, with the last pass often not hitting the mark.

Ipswich second rower Lachlan Roe produced the run of the match to give his side breathing space midway through the half.

In a 20 metre burst, Roe steamrolled through about five defenders off a scrum win to score under the sticks.

That put the Jets out to 24-12 before backrower Matt Brown put the result beyond doubt with a jinking run for his double.

Earlier, Ipswich opened the scoring when captain Tu’u Maori turned halfback Ben Sullivan back on the inside.

Sullivan was heavily involved in the absence of Chris Ash and Mikaere Beattie, now seemingly permanent fixtures in the Ipswich's Intrust Super Cup side after starting the season in the BRL.

For Carina, Chris Cook’s shift to dummy half got the forwards rolling, while Ash Bull continues to impress after starting on the wing and shifting into the centres.

In other fixtures, Valleys leapfrogged Normanby on the ladder with a comprehensive victory at home against Gaters.

Diehards outside back Andrew Lancaster grabbed four tries, taking him to equal second on the season try scoring tally behind Dolphins’ Kyle van Klaveran.

At Kev McKell Oval, West Brisbane overcame a 19-4 deficit early in the second half to topple Easts 22-19 ahead of a mouth-watering clash against Redcliffe next weekend.
