The Queensland Outback Under 14, 16 and 18 teams have arrived in Coolum on the Sunshine Coast after leaving Mount Isa at 4am on Wednesday.

They travelled via Cloncurry, Winton, Longreach, Barcaldine and Blackall, picking up players along the way before stopping at Charleville for dinner on Wednesday night to watch Queensland win the State of Origin.

After the game it was back into the bus to continue their trip to the Sunshine Coast to play in the Glyn Rees City-Country Cultural Exchange Carnival, arriving at lunch-time on Thursday.

They were then handed their rep gear supplied by their sponsor Triple Play and headed to Kawana to train with Danny Grey and the Sunshine Coast Under-20 Colts team.

The Colts players were very generous with their time and took all the Outback players under their wings and helped them through their warm-ups and training drills as well as an opposed training session between the Colts and the Outback Under 18s and 16s.

They were also spoken to by Chris Flannery, the Sunshine Coast Falcons CEO and a former Origin player and NRL premiership winner.

Flannery spoke to the boys about his career as well as about how important it was to enjoy carnivals such as this and the memories and friendships they would make during the weekend.

The Outback teams play their first games tonight (Friday night) and continue through until Sunday, after which they’ll jump back on the bus for their mammoth trip home after making new friends and many new experiences.
