Former captain Adam Brideson had been appointed as Wynnum Manly Seagulls’ Intrust Super Cup coach for the next two seasons, club chairman Scott Thornton and chief executive Hanan Laban announced.

Brideson, who also played in the NRL for Canterbury-Bankstown, will return to the Seagulls as head coach in November having previously served the club as a player and as coach of Wynnum Manly’s Colts team.

Brideson worked under Paul Green during his time at Kougari Oval, and is continuing his coaching education at the Brisbane Broncos working alongside former Seagulls coach Craig Hodges with Brisbane’s Under 20s team.

Fresh start

Thornton said the appointment would represent a fresh start for the Seagulls under the guidance of Brideson, who he considered an NRL coach in the making.

“Adam impressed us when working with the Colts team a few years ago and he’s someone we think can do a lot for this club,” Thornton said.

“Importantly for us, we are not only gaining an excellent coach but someone who has a deep understanding and appreciation of our club’s culture, our values and the standards our fans expect from the Wynnum Manly Seagulls.

“Adam is an NRL coach in the making. The continued success of Paul Green with the North Queensland Cowboys has shown this club’s tremendous track record of helping coaches and players achieve their dreams of competing at the highest level.”

Right man

Laban said Brideson was a natural appointment to build upon the terrific foundations laid by Jon Buchanan during his four years as Seagulls coach.

“After meeting with Adam and discussing his vision for the Seagulls, I have every confidence that he is the man to guide our club into the future,” Laban said.

“His leadership skills, work ethic and character stand out immediately, and he is a coach that our players, fans, sponsors and community will rally behind.

“Above all, he is a high quality person that will have a positive impact on the lives of the young men at our club.”
