Last year’s Sports Dad of the Year winner Johnathan Thurston is calling on rugby league fans to nominate their local sports dads in the Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year award.

Each Father's Day, the contest celebrates sporting fathers in Australia, professional and amateur, who are great examples on and off the sporting field.

Now you can recognise a local sports dad in your community for the chance to be crowned the Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year.

JT, who is a Philips Sports Dad of the Year Ambassador, claimed last year’s celebrity award which showcases the contribution Australia's sporting elite make to their families both on and off the field.

The community award recognises dads closer to home, whether it's a dad that coaches his local junior team, helps the local sports club with funding or support, or simply plays competitive sport on the weekend, now is the chance to highlight a father who's an inspiration to your local sports club and community.

To get involved, people need to go to sportsdads.com.au/community and explain in 100 words or less why they think their chosen sports dad should be crowned the Community Sports Dad of the Year.

The Community Sports Dad of the Year winner will be provided with a $5000 Rebel Sports voucher to donate to his sporting club of choice for some new gear or sporting equipment.

Nominations are now open, so don't forget to log on to sportsdads.com.au/community.

Nominations and entries end on Sunday, August 21, and the winner will be announced before Father's Day, Sunday September 4.

See the website for full terms and conditions.

The Celebrity Dad nominations will be announced next week - stayed tuned to see if another Maroon can take out the title!
