The Queensland Rugby League is pleased to announce the host venues for the State Junior Carnival for the next three years.

The annual event showcases the best junior talent from around the state, while also providing valuable education to those on the junior representative pathway.

QRL Chairman Peter Betros highlighted the significance of the carnival while also emphasising the importance of balance in the lives of young participants.

“This carnival is part of the career pathway that rugby league can provide, and has done so, for many players over the years,” Betros said.

“However, there have also been many players who have not come to this carnival and still reached the pinnacle of playing for their state and country.  There are nearly 50,000 junior players in Queensland – only a small percentage get this opportunity.

“I hope all players reach their potential but remember there is a lot more to life: family, friends, school and fun.” Mr Betros said.

In 2017, the QRL will partner with the Sunshine Coast Regional Council and Sunshine Coast Junior Rugby League to host the event at the Sunshine Coast Sports Precinct.

The carnival will run from June 29 to July 2 and is sure to attract visitors from far and wide.  In 2016, participants came from as far north as the Torres Strait Islands and as far west as Charleville.

Teams will soak up the warmer winter weather of North Queensland in 2018 as Mackay plays host.  The Mackay Junior Rugby League boasts some of the best facilities in regional Queensland that both participants and spectators are sure to appreciate.

A return to South East Queensland is on the cards for 2019 when the Greater Brisbane Junior Rugby League host the carnival.
