The Four Nations tournament featuring Australia, New Zealand, England and Scotland is kicking off soon and two stars of the Intrust Super Cup will be in the thick of the action.
Ipswich Jets enforcer Billy McConnachie (pictured) and Northern Pride forward Sheldon Powe-Hobbs have both been selected in the new-look Bravehearts squad to contest the international tournament being held in the United Kingdom later this month.
This is the first Scotland call-up for Powe-Hobbs who had an impressive season for the Pride this year and was named the club’s Players’ Player for 2016 at their recent end-of-season awards.
Scotland are missing three senior figures through injury, including Penrith Panthers star Peter Wallace who misses out having seriously damaged his elbow during the NRL finals requiring a six-week recovery period, while former West Tiger Keith Galloway ruptured his Achilles in his final game of the season.
Only eight members of the squad who won the 2014 European Cup to gain qualification at the Four Nations have made the cut, although 12 of the squad who reached the World Cup quarter-finals in 2013 remain.
Scotland travel down to Cumbria on Friday, October 21 to play a warm-up game against a Cumbrian Select XIII in Liam Harrison’s Testimonial at Barrow. They then move into their Preston training camp where they will be based throughout the tournament.
The Four Nations tournament begins on Friday, October 28 in the United Kingdom.
