More than 100 girls represented their schools across the local junior leagues (Brisbane, Ipswich, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast) on Wednesday, October 19 at Carina JRL.

With a total of seven teams participating in the School Girls Finals Challenge, the participants enjoyed a day of competitive rugby league games in the Under 16 and Open Divisions.

The stage was set and the supporters of the girls game came in droves.

Each and every team took to the field with enthusiasm, displayed pride in their jersey and a wore a smile on their face.

For many of these girls, this event was their first time representing their school at a high level of school girls rugby league.

Each division displayed some high quality rugby league, however at the end of the event; Merrimac State High School were crowned the Open Divisional winners while Wavell State High School took out the Under 16 Division.

The event was devised as means to recruit and retain girls to the game in preparation for future School Girls Rugby League Competitions and pathways.

Local Brisbane Broncos and Gold Coast Titans School Girls Challenges will be held again in the lead up to determine the overall School Girls champion.

NRL Development would like to congratulate and thank the following schools for their involvement in the NRL School Girls Finals Challenge and for their continuing support of female participation:

Beenleigh State High School, Benowa State High School, Caboolture State High School, Ipswich State High School, Maroochydore State High School, Merrimac State High School and Upper Coomera State College.
