The Rockhampton and District Junior Rugby League (RDJRL) would like to invite all Under 14 teams to nominate for the 2017 Charity Shield.

The tournament will be held in Rockhampton on Friday, April 7 and Saturday, April 8 (the middle weekend of the school holidays).

The carnival heads into its sixth year and its second year with Headspace as the naming charity.

Former Queensland State of Origin Player PJ Marsh (who works with Headspace in Rockhampton) can’t wait for the Carnival as last year’s event was very successful.

Headspace will again be present at both days of the carnival to offer any advice to players, coaching staff and supporters.

The 2016 event proved that having a strong message and having Headspace attend can help our younger players.

The 2017 Carnival will again be played over two days with all pool games played on the Friday.

The finals will move back to Browne Park to be played as lead up matches to the CQ Capras v Mackay Cutters game in the Under 18, Under 20 and Intrust Super Cup on Saturday night.

The carnival is open to all registered Under 14 teams in Queensland and NSW with games comprising nine (9) players a side over two nine-minute halves.

At the end of Day 1, teams will be ranked with the top two sides playing for the Headspace Charity Shield. The organisers will endeavour to have all sides play a final (dependant on team numbers).

The Carnival also brings in former local NRL players, with Jamie Simpson (Souths), Justin Loomans (Cowboys/Souths) and Matt Sing (Penrith/Roosters/Cowboys) attending last year’s event to pass on their knowledge about the game on and off the field.

Nominations close Friday, March 10, with nomination forms available on the QRL website, the RDJRL Charity Shield Facebook page or contact Michael Fletcher

For further information, clubs can contact Michael Fletcher on 0428 113 148 or m.fletcher188@bigpond.com.

# Due to lighting issues at Victoria Park, Day 1 may be moved. The organisers will advise of any changes well in advance to all nominated teams.
