The legacy of Sunshine Coast Falcons player James Ackerman continues to be honoured by his family and those involved in the game.
On Tuesday, memorial headgear designed by James’s younger brother Thomas was launched at the Amart Sports in Kawana.
The limited edition headgear is blue (the favourite colour of James) features many features of his personality and legacy, including the number 8, his handprint, Aboriginal artwork to represent his family’s heritage and the DonateLife logo to promote organ and tissue donation – a cause the Ackerman family passionately support.
Last year saw the QRL Major Competitions dedicate a round to helping promote organ and tissue donation via the Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation round. Read more HERE.
One high profile supporter of the headgear is Queensland Maroons and Cowboys star Johnathan Thurston who explained to media earlier this week why he had been happy to throw his backing behind the campaign.
“It’s obviously a tragic circumstance for the family; especially the two kids; so I just lent my hand there to raise awareness about wearing head gear, but also about organ donation,” Thurston said.
On the promotional posters and banners, Thurston shares modelling duties of the headgear with Olliver Ackerman, the son of James and Sarra.
Proceeds from the sale of the head gear will go to the Children’s Ward of the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and Donate Life.
