PNG Hunters overcome Easts Tigers at home

By QRL Media

The PNG Hunters were back at home for the first time since their elimination final loss to the Sunshine Coast Falcons last season.

They returned to their winning ways at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby with a 30-20 victory over the Easts Tigers in Round 2’s Sunday afternoon game.

Stanton Albert got his team on the board early charging forward to put the ball down just to the left of the uprights, with Henry Wan and David Loko producing similarly strong runs to give the Hunters an early 18-0 lead which they took into the halftime break.

The Tigers, who have had some success in PNG in the past, mounted a comeback in the second half, with tries to Charlie Galo and Shane Neumann reducing the deficit.

It was a frenetic final 10 minutes with the two sides trading tries – including a double to Easts centre Conor Carey.

However, the Hunters held on to record another win at their home base.
