In an ongoing commitment to help young players and the community, QRL’s Central Division has partnered with youth suicide prevention charity ALIVE to help foster more resilience and mental wellbeing across the board.
In a first for ALIVE, CEO Tamsyn Rosenberg and QRL Central Division Wellbeing and Education Manager Trish Drummond will be touring areas of the Division including Warwick and District and the Toowoomba region in May, visiting schools and clubs to deliver these important skills in mini workshops to students and the community.
The ALIVE project was launched in August last year in response to the dramatic incline in youth suicide, which is now the number one cause of death in young Australians.
ALIVE’s commitment is to end youth suicide.
THe organisation work in partnership with youth and family support service Get Real, located on a community farm in Loganholme, to provide a range of community support services including mentoring respite, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu therapy, equine and animal assisted learning, leadership camps, counselling and projects for teenagers at risk that will help them thrive.
Through coaching and events, the team helps more than 2500 Australian teenagers each year discover how to create a life they can thrive in.
The ALIVE team provide mental wellbeing programs with a twist to high schools, educators, doctors, parents and all those working with young people.
CEO and founder Tamsyn Rosenberg said ALIVE used a variety of approaches and activities in a bid to save lives.
“The school programs use a unique approach of activities, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu movement, conversations and learning that engages the students in a way they enjoy which allows the lessons to really sink in,” Rosenberg said.
“This gives them choice through hard times and an ability to respond better.
“Our approach is saving lives and we are thrilled to be working with the QRL community on these empowering projects.”
The tour will be in the Toowoomba region on May 1-4, Goondiwindi on May 9, Warwick on May 10 and Stanthorpe on May 11.
Local businesses and the community will also be given the opportunity to sponsor and participate in fundraising for ongoing support programs in the area.
As part of the program, ALIVE kits and suicide prevention packs for teens are available in each area.
