A hot and steamy afternoon at Jack Manski Oval on Saturday proved no barrier for the Townsville Blackhawks who put in a ruthless performance against the Mackay Cutters in their Round 3 clash.

The Blackhawks won the game 60-12 in front of a 1400 strong home crowd, taking them to the top of the Intrust Super Cup ladder after the first 3 rounds.

The win also added to their Foley Shield points tally.

Coach Kristian Woolf praised his entire team for their efforts, including his three starting middles, backrowers, halves and the remarkable effort of fullback Carlin Anderson.

The former Ipswich Jets flyer recorded a massive 28 points in the game, running in for two tries (one in each half) and 100% accuracy with the boot, kicking 10 from 10.

Forward Blake Leary and outside back Jonathon Reuben were also able to cross for doubles.

“It was a good strong team performance,” Woolf said.

“We showed solid resilience in defence, which was most pleasing.”

“I’m hoping the boys use this win as a confidence booster to take with them for the next few games.”

For the Cutters, it was a disappointing crash back to earth after posting a strong win against Tweed Heads in Round 2.

The Mackay side will be looking to regroup before they travel to BMD Kougari Oval to take on the unbeaten Wynnum Manly Seagulls.

The Blackhawks coaching team will now complete their reviews and start preparing for Round 4 when they head to Dolphin Oval to take on the Redcliffe Dolphins on Saturday night.
