News that former Jets great Kevin Walters had helped Norths’ coach Mark Gliddon in the off-season came to haunt his old team yesterday at Bishop Park as the Devils proved too good for Ipswich.

In a dominant performance, the Devils had all the running in the first 10 minutes of the match with the Jets coming up with multiple mistakes to allow Norths to apply sustained pressure.

However, the Jets kept turning the Devils away and then on the back of incisive Sam Martin run, they were able to gain some momentum.

Turning the ball to the right hand side, the Jets found big front rower Nat Neale who brought up his 50th point for the Jets with his 13th try.

From there, the game flowed, but it was still the up Jets 4-0 after 30 minutes.

In the 31st minute, former Blackhawks’ winger Delouise Hoeter scored in the right hand corner and the Devils did not slow down before the break, with Dane Chang putting the ball down to extend the Devils lead to 10-4 at halftime.

After the break, it was former Jet Luke Pollock who hurt his old club just after the break when he grabbed a cross-field kick and had the Devils enjoying a 16-4 lead.

At that stage, the Jets had done plenty of defence, and had earned the respect of the Devils so Todd Murphy went for the two points when it was on offer to extend their lead to 18-4 after 50 minutes.

Norths next foray into the Jets’ territory saw them attack the Jets left-hand side Michael Lucas going 70m to score near the posts. The score was now 24-4 with 20 minutes to play.

Big mobile Norths’ forward Francis Molo found a huge hole in the Jets’ line and strolled over to take the score to 30-4 three minutes later and seal the game for the Devils.

The Jets’ own big forward Tyson Lofipo then scored try number 21 for the Ipswich Jets and moved the score to 30-10 with 10 minutes left in the Round 3 game.

Another penalty saw Murphy ice the game 32-10.

The Jets will take on the Falcons next week at home, while the Devils will travel to PNG to tackle the Hunters.
