Jets find rhythm in second half
The Ipswich Jets claimed their first win of the season and proved too strong for the Logan Brothers defeating them in front of their fans 42-18.
Jets coach Mark Bishop was able to kick-start his birthday celebrations with his side gifting him a great win; which was built off a strong second half performance.
“I wish it was my birthday every weekend to have us win,” Bishop laughed.
“We held onto the ball in the second half with a 100% completion rate and the Logan Brothers lost a bit of puff and we made them pay.
“We scored four tries in the last 10 minutes and everything bounced for us; luck was in our favour.”
While the final score makes it look like it was an easy victory, it wasn’t a comfortable start for the Jets.
It was a tough start to the game with their defence being tested for the first 40 minutes.
“We just handed the ball to them in the first half,” Bishop said.
“In the last five minutes before halftime we just lost the ball on the second tackle and ran out of puff.
“Halftime was the best thing for us. Our defence really held on, for the field position they had they could have scored a lot more.”
With the Jets finding their winning rhythm, they will be a tough side to beat in Sunday’s grand final replay against the Redcliffe Dolphins.
“It will be in the back of their minds, but it will count for something in the first five minutes and the last five minutes,” Bishop said of the players’ mentality towards the game.
“We just have to hang in there and start on a winning roll. Once you start getting that rhythm everything will sort itself out.”
After Round 3, the West Brisbane Panthers have gone three in a row beating the Redcliffe Dolphins 22-12.
The Jets weren’t the only team to get their first win, the Easts Tigers also claimed their first beating the Valleys Diehards 26-8.
