Due to the predicted flood situation in Rockhampton this week, the Headspace Nines Under 14 Charity Shield has been postponed.

In a statement released today, carnival organiser Michael Fletcher said due to the anticipated flooding, a number of travelling teams had withdrawn.

“Due to the extreme weather from Tropical Cyclone Debbie, we have decided to postpone the Headspace Nines following advice from the Rockhampton Regional Council,” Fletcher said.

"We have also made this decision based on the number of teams forced to withdraw due to the flood situation.

"This is a decision we have not taken lightly, but our first priority is the safety of the players and their families travelling on the roads at this time."

The carnival has been rescheduled to Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 17 in Rockhampton with further information to be released closer to the date.

In positive news, Fletcher said the change of date may allow for more teams to attend as the carnival is in the back-end of the season.

The RDJRL would like to thank all those involved in trying to make the carnival a success in these trying conditions, including Emmaus College for their offer to use their facilities following the predicted inundation at Victoria Park.

The RDJRL would also like to thank this year's carnival sponsors: Rockhampton Regional Council, Intersport Rockhampton, Central Queensland Capras, Headspace Rockhampton, Camp Quality and Cancer Council Queensland.

We would like to extend our thoughts to all those in the Rockhampton area this week as they prepare for flooding.

We also wish a speedy recovery to all those affected by TC Debbie.
