Highlights + Wrap: Tweed v Magpies

Souths Logan dominate over Tweed Heads

by QRL Media

The Souths Logan Magpies put in a dominant performance to outclass Tweed Heads in their Round 5 game 44-12.

Magpies halfback Sam Scarlett was in striking form for his side and scored the first of his three tries of the afternoon in the fourth minute of the match.

It came of a Tweed Heads error as they were attacking the line and the ran the length of the field to score.

Errors have been a consistent sore point for the as-yet winless Seagulls, with coach Aaron Zimmerle lamenting to the Gold Coast Bulletin that his side “were not up to Cup standard”.

First-half injuries to strong performers prop Damian Sironen (severe cork) and winger Brayden McGrady (knee) did not help their cause.

The unprecedented injury-riddled start to the season by the Gold Coast Titans has not helped either of the coast-based Cup teams, with both yet to register a competition point this season.

For the Magpies however, the win continues their strong showing at the opening end the season which sees them sitting in the top half of the ladder.

Souths Logan backrower Daniel Tamou marked his 50th Cup game with a double, scoring in the closing minutes of each half to help seal a memorable victory for his team.

Fullback Jamayne Isaako also had reason to celebrate, racking up a personal tally of 16 points with a first half try and six conversions.

For this weekend’s XXXX Rivalry Round matches, the Magpies will face off against the top-of-the-table Norths Devils, while the Seagulls will travel to Pizzey Park to face the Bears in what is always a torrid affair.
