The Ipswich Jets must wait another week to before they can attempt get into the win column, after coming off a 54-4 loss to the league-leading Redcliffe Dolphins in Round 5 of the FOGS Under 20s competition.

They were hit by a massive offensive effort by the Dolphins, as they ran in 10 tries in the match.

William Partridge and William Carter lead the Dolphins with two apiece, while Tristan Hope, Radean Robinson, Brayden Dee, Reece Braun, Corban Daniels and Michael Walit also crossed the line.

In addition to his four-pointer, halfback Reece Braun added to his team’s score with seven conversions.

Braun now leads the league with 56 points, while Daniels sits alongside Falcon Damian Forde-Hurrell at the top of the Leading Try Scorers tally with five tries.

The lone score from the Jets came from Treymain Spry, but Jets coach Adam Boettcher was still taking positives from the match.

“You learn more from a loss like that than you would from a win,” Boettcher said.

However, despite being disappointed in the loss, Boettcher was pleased the game gave a few of the club’s Under 18 players a chance to take to the field for the first time as part of the squad.

“We’ve been hit pretty hard with a few injuries and suspensions, so it was good for those guys to get the opportunity,” Boettcher said.

Boettcher does not believe much will change in their training to get his team back on track as his squad will focus on putting in more effort and getting back to what works for them.

“It’s a funny game footy, sometimes a little more effort and the tide will turn,” he said.

The Jets will now prepare to take on an Easts Tigers squad who come into this game follow a 30-24 loss to the Townsville Blackhawks.

“They all pretty much play the same brand of footy, they’re all big and they play more of a power game,” Boettcher said.

“We’ll take a look at the tape, but they won’t change the way we approach footy.”

The Jets currently sit in 14th in the FOGS Under 20s competition ladder with three losses and no wins as yet. The Redcliffe Dolphins are leading the league with four wins and no losses.

Ipswich take on the East Tigers Saturday at the North Ipswich Reserve on Saturday with the game beginning at 12.50pm.

The Dolphins will look to continue their unbeaten streak as they take on the Wynnum Manly Seagulls Sunday at the BMD Kougari Oval. Kick-off is at 11.30am.
