The season results are coming down to the wire for the Tweed Heads Seagulls in the Mal Meninga Cup, as a potential win against Souths Logan on Sunday could launch them into fourth place on the ladder – giving them a shot at the semi-finals.
The match was originally scheduled for Round 5, but was postponed due to the poor weather.
“We’re aware that there is still a chance of making the finals, so we definitely still have that goal in mind still,” Seagulls coach Brad Davis said.
The game comes a week after the side beat the Norths Devils 38-10, after they shut out their opponents in the first half.
“We played really well and thought our defence was really strong, so we’ll need that again this week,” Davis said.
In addition to their defence, the Seagulls had a heavy attacking presence with three tries by Benjamin Thomas, and added tries from Maxwell Dowd, Logan Cootes, Brenton Daley-Holten.
Jaman Rio supplemented the score with five conversions of his own.

The recent positive results come as the Seagulls continue to focus on their team aspects.
Davis believes that’s an approach his team won’t change when preparing for their weekend opponent.
“I think they’re starting to learn to get the rewards, you (have got to) have a consistent effort,” Davis said.
“We just want to consistently apply ourselves for 35 minutes at a time; then we can build on it from there.”
It won’t be an easy matchup though, as the Seagulls take on a formidable Magpies team who are currently sitting in second spot on the ladder – with an eye on a possible move into first place.
The Magpies are coming off a bye week after also beating the Norths Devils 43-28 in their last game in Round 6.
The Tweed Heads Seagulls face the Souths Magpies at Piggabeen Complex on Sunday, April 23 with kickoff is at 10.50am.
Elsewhere, the top-of-the-table Western Mustangs will hope to clinch the minor premiership when they face the Central Crows.
That game will take place at Gold Park on Sunday, April 23 at 2pm.
