After an apparent shoulder injury to Kangaroos and XXXX Queensland Maroons halfback Johnathan Thurston, Maroons Coach Kevin Walters will wait on the results of medical tests before altering any plans for this year's Holden State of Origin series.

"We are aware that JT has a shoulder issue but we'll wait for the scans and official diagnosis from the Cowboys," Walters said today.

The apparent injury was sustained in Friday night's 30-12 ANZAC Test win against New Zealand in Canberra.

The Maroons are well placed to cover any potential long-term injury to their chief playmaker.

Earlier this year, Anthony Milford, Ben Hunt and Moses Mbye attended the QAS Emerging Origin camp on the Gold Coast where they gained valuable experience under Walters.

Utility Michael Morgan and in-form Manly half Daly Cherry-Evans are other options if Thurston is ruled out, with both having Origin experience.

Walters added that he was confident that should a replacement be needed for Thurston, anyone chosen would do Queensland proud.

The XXXX Queensland Maroons team for Holden State of Origin Game 1 will be announced on May 22 and appear at the Maroon Festival's River Parade during Fan Day on Sunday May 28.
