The Sunshine Coast Falcons continued their great start to the FOGS Colts Challenge, beating the Souths Logan Magpies 26-16 last Saturday night.
The Falcons were led by Hayden Lewis-Boyer with two tries, while Pio Nakubuwai, Damian Forde-Hurrell and Liam Taylor also added in scores of their own, with Taylor successfully kicking three conversions to end the match.
For Souths, skipper Broughton Clark, David Pritchard and Jesse Matafeo got across the line for tries, but those efforts were not enough to beat the surging Falcons squad.
“It was a really quick and physical game of football,” Falcons coach Mick Buckley said.
“We played at a high standard, and it was probably the toughest game we’ve played all year.”
The Falcons are so far unbeaten in this competition after brushing off both the Magpies and Burleigh Bears in the opening two rounds.
While Buckley said there were still improvements to be made, he was still happy with how his squad had been playing over the last couple weeks.
“I’m just letting them play footy, so they are playing with what’s in front of them, and at the moment they are making some good decisions,” Buckley said.
This weekend, the Falcons will be looking forward to the challenge ahead and will take on the Devils on Sunday at Bishop Park.
Norths are also unbeaten – so it will be a good opportunity for both sides to test themselves. Kickoff is at 11.30am.
“They’re a big side, and they play a tough brand of footy and we’ll be ready for them,” Buckley said.
“We have a few injury concerns at the moment, but we’ll just be out there doing our best.”
Elsewhere in the round, the Magpies will be looking for their first win of the competition and will take on Easts Tigers at Suzuki Stadium, Langlands Park on Sunday at 1.25pm.
