Eight players from the championship-winning Central Crows team have been selected to represent the XXXX Queensland Rangers.

The Central contingent will spearhead the Rangers side in their quest for a third-straight victory over the NSW Ron Massey Cup team in this month’s annual representative game.

In a big win for rugby league fans on the Gold Coast, the June 25 clash at Pizzey Park is part of a big double-header, with the Queensland team to take the field before the Round 16 Intrust Super Cup game between the Burleigh Bears and Ipswich Jets.

The Sunshine Coast’s Glen Dreger will coach the Rangers team, a showcase of the QRL’s leading talent from local league competitions throughout the state.

The 18 players selected to wear the maroon colours against the NSW representative team were picked from last weekend’s QRL State Carnival at Southport.

The Central Crows took out the championship title after two strong performances, paving the way for eight of their stars - Steven Franciscus, Esera Esera, Haydan Lipp, Matthew Duggan, Sam Burns, Murray Goldsworthy, Rueben Baillie and Jason Wardrop – to be selected in the Rangers outfit.

Central edged out Northern 20-18 in their final match, but there was some good news for the Marlins, who were able to celebrate the selection of Matthew Skaife, Ross Bella and Halvor Harris in the Queensland team.

The Rangers line-up will also have a strong South East and Poinsettias flavour to it, with Paul Ulberg, Ono So'oialo, Nathan Watts, Ben Shea, Shem Vaoa, James Sharkie and Aaron Booth all given the nod by selectors.
