The exact prognosis on Darius Boyd’s thumb injury will be known after he undergoes surgery this afternoon.

Boyd has a fracture in his right thumb after playing his part in Queensland’s State of Origin victory on Wednesday night.

The joint may require pinning, which will not be known until the surgeon begins the operation.

“Thumbs and fingers can be funny things,” said Broncos’ High Performance Manager Jeremy Hickmans this morning.

“A lot depends on the position and the type of fracture.

“Once the surgery is done we will have a better line on where the injury is at.

“We would expect it to be a period of four to six weeks of recovery, but we won’t know for sure until it is done.”

The Broncos will determine Boyd’s replacement for tomorrow’s match against the Raiders in Canberra at training this morning.
